Iowa ethanol producer expects savings from using Enogen corn

The Plymouth Energy ethanol plant in Merrill, Iowa, has received its first batch of Syngenta's Enogen corn variety, which was developed to produce ethanol more efficiently. The Enogen corn could help the plant save about $1.5 million annually on production costs, said CEO Eamonn Byrne. Enogen's ability to cut viscosity in the production process also means Plymouth can increase throughput by 8% to 10%, Byrne said.
