NEI exec says industry is committed to permanent disposal of used fuel

The U.S. nuclear industry is still dedicated to the development of a central storage facility for used nuclear fuel, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's waste confidence rule does not necessarily endorse permanent disposal of the material at plant sites, said Ellen Ginsberg, vice president and general counsel at the Nuclear Energy Institute. Ginsberg's remarks come as the NRC holds several meetings nationwide to take public comments on the rule. "There is no entity more interested in a final resolution to the disposal of used nuclear fuel than the nuclear-energy industry," Ginsberg said.
