Pressure is on for TEPCO over removal of Fukushima plant's used fuel rods

The Japanese government is being pressured by various individuals and groups, including Mitsuhei Murata, former Japanese ambassador to Switzerland, to be more transparent regarding Tokyo Electric Power's plans to remove more than 1,300 used nuclear fuel rods from the pool of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant's reactor 4. About 12,000 Americans have also expressed concern over the fuel rod removal operation by signing an online petition urging U.S. senators to conduct an investigation about the possible environmental risks to the U.S. Pacific coast.
