DIRECTV chief considers options instead of paying TV-station fees

DIRECTV is thinking about ways to avoid paying retransmission-consent fees that multichannel-TV providers must pay local broadcast stations, CEO Mike White said Tuesday. The fees are up by 50% this year, he said. Among the options being considered is providing small antennas to subscribers in an Aereo-like manner, although White said no moves are imminent. White also weighed in on 4K HD technology, saying DIRECTV will support the format if consumers embrace it.
