Justice Dept. wants Alaska drilling suit dismissed

The Justice Department is seeking the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell against the Interior Department for stopping drilling off the state's coast. Alaska "fails to show any procedural or substantive injury whatsoever," Justice Department lawyers said in documents filed with a federal district court. State officials want Interior to clear Royal Dutch Shell's Beaufort Sea exploration project and are calling for the expanded development of Arctic waters.
