Did beer lead to the civilized world?

Scientists say the evidence is growing that Stone Age farmers didn't grow grain to make food but to make beer. The brews probably were used for community feasts, which were critical elements to the society for dealing with debts and political power, researchers say. "Beer is sacred stuff in most traditional societies," says one archaeologist.
