England alters training for primary-school teachers

Primary-school teachers in England will be trained to teach specific subjects, such as maths, science and foreign languages. The strategy -- a departure from a system in which primary teachers are expected to be trained in multiple disciplines -- is similar to that of private schools. "Learning about maths and science early on in life can enthuse a child to develop a love of the subjects later on in their education," said Education Secretary Michael Gove.
