Poll: Employers offer voluntary benefits to help workers, not cut costs

A Prudential study of employee benefits found that 75% of employers offer voluntary benefits primarily to give workers more options. The benefits, paid by payroll deduction instead of employers, include life insurance and dental coverage. The study found that 42% of employers offer the benefits to meet employee needs, and 30% say they offer them because workers asked them to.
