Summit-goers call for biofuel programs in next farm bill

The participants at a farm bill conference in Fargo, N.D., identified crop-insurance policy, farm-research funding and biofuel programs as top priorities for the 2012 Farm Bill. Agriculture accounts for one out of 12 jobs in the U.S., but calls from the House and Senate farm panels to cut $23 billion from the 2012 Farm Bill could jeopardize programs under the bill, said Michael Scuse, an acting undersecretary for the Department of Agriculture. "We need to make clear to the 98% of Americans who don't farm that this bill affects everyone," Scuse said.
