Acquisitions alter landscape of local TV stations

The down economy has led to a flurry of acquisitions in the local TV arena, with recent deals including Sinclair Broadcast's purchase of eight Freedom Communications stations. Industry observers said private-equity firms that years ago got into station ownership in a big way are in a mood to sell and that stations have become hotter properties, thanks to a revenue boost from political ads and retransmission payments from cable and satellite distributors.
