Contractors turn to propane autogas, alt-fuel vehicles

Several contractors are turning to alternative-fuel vehicles to achieve greater fuel efficiency, including ARS/Rescue Rooter, which recently deployed 21 autogas-powered Ford E-Series vans outfitted by Roush CleanTech. Waterloo, Ind.-based Gibson's Heating and Plumbing converted nine E-350 box trucks and six other vehicles to run on propane autogas, and the company is now reaping the benefits. "It's better for the carbon footprint, they run longer between oil changes, and you can lock in your propane price for 24 months. We save well over 40% of what we would pay for gasoline," said company owner Mark Gibson.
