How veterinarians use DNA tests

Veterinarians use DNA, deoxyribonucleic acid, to test pets for inherited genetic diseases such as cardiomyopathy in Ragdoll and Maine Coon cats or pyruvate kinase deficiency in Abyssinian cats. DNA testing can also be done to identify an infectious agent including bacteria and viruses.
