RYGB, duodenal switch show positive results in diabetes patients

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass was superior to nonsurgical treatment and laparoscopic adjustable gastric band surgery in terms of weight loss, mean A1C improvements and reduction in medication score for morbidly obese patients with type 2 diabetes, a study revealed. Researchers said RYGB and duodenal switch patients achieved similar weight loss and body mass index, but those who had the latter showed better A1C and diabetes medication scores and had higher diabetes resolution. The findings appear in the Annals of Surgery.
