Virginia may be next in line for federal wind-farm approval

Now that federal regulators have opened areas off the coasts of Delaware and Maryland for wind development, the path looks clear for Virginia to join them. Reports suggest that areas off of Virginia Beach could provide 3.2 gigawatts in wind energy, meeting one-tenth of the state's total demand. "I am expectant and hopeful that Virginia will be the third [state]," said Maureen Matsen, the state's natural-resources chief.
