Negotiating tips for women seeking better pay, balance

Mark Anthony, who leads a seminar on Women and the Art of Negotiation at the Negotiation Institute, answered questions from Washingtonpost.com readers in an online chat Wednesday. Anthony said the issue with balancing work and life is about maintaining high productivity for the employer; a candidate's value to the company should be the basis for salary, not the applicant's personal needs; and taking a pay cut for a job that offers better life balance does not undermine a person's value to a company.
