Novozymes ramps up presence in China's advanced-biofuels sector

Denmark's Novozymes is in talks to provide enzymes to several initiatives in China aimed at producing cellulosic ethanol from agricultural waste. Among Novozymes' ventures in China is a partnership deal with food manufacturer and trader Cofco and China Petroleum & Chemical to develop a biorefinery in Heilongjiang province for making ethanol from corn stover. The plant is due to go online in 2014, said Michael Christiansen, Novozymes' president of China operations.
