Rational research, thought and regulation are essential to managing and mitigating food risk, but regulators have not always demonstrated this, particularly with genetically modified crops, said Anne Glover, the European Commission's chief scientific adviser. "The evidence is the same for each [European] member state, but each member state votes differently," she said.
