Former SSM Health CEO says she never planned to be a leader

Sister Mary Jean Ryan, who stepped down as CEO of SSM Health Care this summer after 25 years of leadership, says that while growing up in Wisconsin she never envisioned she one day would lead a $3.7 billion corporation that includes 15 hospitals and two nursing homes in Missouri, Wisconsin, Illinois and Oklahoma. She never even dreamed of becoming a nurse or entering the ministry, but she did and was the last nun to lead a U.S. Catholic hospital. "I was just willing to do things if I was asked," she said.
