Malware writers become more prolific, sophisticated

About 73,000 new strains of malware are detected daily, according to Panda Security, which says it has processed 200 million malware files. The Internet security firm, which maintains the Collective Intelligence engine for tallying malware, says code writers are more organized than ever and may have ties to some Eastern European governments. A separate report from Microsoft estimates that 1 in 14 Internet downloads may now be infected by malicious code.
