O2 commences 4G LTE pilot in London using 2.6GHz

British telecom operator O2 is trialing a 4G mobile-broadband network in London using wireless spectrum in 2.6GHz frequency. The trial, which will run for nine months, is the largest of its kind in the country to test so-called Long-Term Evolution technology and comes about a year before the nation's communications regulator is scheduled to start auctioning spectrum for the service. Trial participants will connect to the Internet using mobile-broadband dongles from Samsung, and the company will rely on radio and core networking equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks.
