Research evaluates BMI for predicting heart risk

BMI may be better than total cholesterol levels for estimating 10-year cardiovascular disease risk, researchers at the University of Zurich reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The study team said obesity screening had a stronger scientific foundation and that lifestyle changes that promote weight loss or prevent weight gain "may improve health more strongly than lipid-lowering treatment."
