Close to $5 million is released for scholarships in language study

Nearly $5 million in scholarship money for students wishing to study foreign languages will soon be available under the Beatrice S. Demers Foreign Language Fellows Program, to be administered by the Rhode Island Foundation. Demers, who died in 2007, had been a professor of foreign languages for 30 years at the University of Rhode Island. According to Demers' wishes, the scholarships will be available to anyone wishing to learn a foreign language, but preference will be given to those who enroll at URI.
