HHS panel pitches e-authentication for groups involved in HIEs

The HHS' Privacy and Security Tiger Team is proposing that health care entities participating in simple data exchanges under Stage 1 meaningful use have electronic credentials to verify their identities. "For the lightweight set of recommendations for stage one, there is an assumption that the organizations are more likely to know one another even if their computers don't know one another," the team's chairwoman said.
