Report: States mandate gifted education but don't always fund it

Although gifted programs are mandated in 32 states, a new report from two groups for gifted educators shows that about only about half of all states provide funding for gifted-education programs. Schools in most states rely on local districts for funding, according to the report. The report also found that only five states required special preparation for would-be gifted educators, and just 20 states required special certifications for educators to teach students who are gifted.
