Bloomberg to nix 10,000 city jobs over next 18 months

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced strict new measures intended to help bridge a $3.3 billion shortfall in the next fiscal budget. Measures include reducing the city's 300,000 public jobs by 10,000 in the next year and a half, both by cutting positions and by allowing open jobs to go unfilled. The job cuts will affect nearly every department, from police to firehouses and the city's schools.
