NAREIT: Blended real estate portfolio leads to better performance

A NAREIT study, which looked at returns from 1992 to 2009, finds a portfolio that blends REITs and private equity real estate will outperform a portfolio that holds only one of those assets. "You don't go with all equities just because it has the highest return -- same with REITs," says Mike Grupe, senior vice president of research and investor outreach at NAREIT.
