Companies promote wellness with eye on costs, productivity

Companies must realize that employee wellness affects both health care costs and productivity through absenteeism and injuries, according to Thomas Parry of the Integrated Benefits Institute, which works with 750 U.S. employers. United Healthcare, the largest private employer in New York's Ulster County, promotes its initiatives using wellness champions and also has an onsite gym, Weight Watchers discounts, a walkway around the building and nutrition information for cafeteria food.
