German department store chain Galeria Kaufhof has boosted sales through increased online retail offerings as part of a push to become an omnichannel retailer, a more challenging proposition in Germany where shoppers settle up at the end of the month instead of paying as they go. Consistent merchandising and years spent gaining shoppers' trust are also helping the 120-store retailer weather tougher economic times, writes Forbes' Walter Loeb.
