FCC proposes changes in cross-ownership rules

Federal rules limiting cross-ownership of newspapers and TV stations in a given market would be loosened but not scrapped under a proposal by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Julius Genachowski, sources said. His proposal would essentially end the restriction in the 20 biggest markets but would keep the ban in smaller markets if such combinations were deemed likely to diminish local news or overconcentrate economic weight. Radio-TV cross-ownership would end.
