Iraq expects Exxon's West Qurna contract to trump KRG deal

ExxonMobil should be less interested in moving forward with an oil-drilling deal with Iraq's Kurdistan region because the company has a better contract in southern Iraq, Iraqi Oil Minister Abdul-Kareem Luaibi said. Any agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government are prohibited, and Exxon's pact could affect its West Qurna development deal, Iraq said. "Exxon's interests in Iraq are large and not to be compared with what was announced from small blocks in the region," Luaibi said.
