New Zealand considers options for surplus teachers

Following the Canterbury earthquakes in New Zealand, about 1,500 students moved out of the region, creating less demand for teachers. Schools have until later this month to report to the Education Ministry how many teaching positions they plan to cut next year. Teachers who are affected will be eligible for a relief teaching pool, additional training or other options.
