Experts: Smaller communities may be new wind sector growth market

Wind projects in smaller communities could be the next growth market for the industry as many investor-owned utilities are already hitting state targets for their renewable portfolios, according to speakers at the American Wind Energy Association fall symposium in Chandler, Ariz. Electric cooperatives and municipal power companies "typically buy renewable power, not because they have to, but because they want to," OwnEnergy CEO Jacob Susman said. "And there are two reasons why they would want to: either their members tell them they have to, or because it's the best value."
