Penney's chief promotes Thanksgiving traditions

J.C. Penney will adhere to traditions, closing on Thanksgiving Day and encouraging employees and customers to spend the day with family instead of shopping, CEO Ron Johnson said in his latest e-mail to customers. Penney's will open at 6 a.m. on Black Friday, two hours later than last year, and will add nostalgic touches including carolers at select stores in each major city.
