Romney comment highlights gap in dental benefits

Some people may have been surprised recently to learn the Affordable Care Act requires insurers to cover dental care for children but not for adults. Moreover, Medicare offers minimal dental benefits, and many state Medicaid programs cover only emergency dental procedures. Studies have linked poor oral health to higher risk for heart disease and diabetes, and public health advocates say better coverage is needed.
