Proper design requires M&R input, says expert

Maintenance and reliability engineers need to be involved during the design phase of engineering projects in order to minimize malfunctions, said reliability manager Ramesh Gulati, manager of asset management and reliability planning at Arnold Engineering Development Center/Aerospace Testing Alliance, while he was at the annual conference of the Society of Maintenance & Reliability Professionals. "Design means thinking about things such as how will we perform maintenance on equipment," Gulati said.
