Debt panel's failure gives hope for energy programs in farm bill

The Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction's failure to forge a deal is expected to effectively kill a proposal by the House and Senate agriculture committees to eliminate some energy programs in the next farm bill. The proposal's collapse would give supporters more time to call for the inclusion of the energy programs in the 2012 Farm Bill. "We think that the Energy Title is fundamentally important to the Farm Bill because it's going to create many thousands of new jobs in rural America," said Lloyd Ritter, co-director of the Ag Energy Coalition.
