Promised retiree benefits can't be taken away, Calif. court rules

The California Supreme Court has ruled that state and local governments that overhaul their health benefit programs can't void benefits already promised to retired employees. "This decision says that when you are in the process of doing public employee pension reform, you have to respect the rights of current retirees," said Ernest Galvan, who represented retired government workers in the case.
