Understanding diabetes in pets

Diabetes, a disorder of the body's glucose regulation, afflicts dogs and cats, and symptoms include increased thirst and urination as well as weight loss despite an increased appetite, writes veterinarian Jennifer Hennessey. Although diabetes is a serious illness, Dr. Hennessey points out that working closely with a veterinarian to design the best treatment regimen can lead to a long and happy life for diabetic pets.
