Existing-home sales were down 2.2% in October

Purchases of existing homes in the U.S. dropped to an annual pace of 4.53 million that exceeded analysts' estimates, according to the National Association of Realtors. The drop in home sales indicates a stagnant housing market due to high unemployment and tight credit. The number of homes up for sale declined, while demand for single-family homes fell 2%.
