Madeline DiNonno, executive director of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, says it's time to put "gender on the radar" when it comes to movie content development. The lack of strong female film characters and women participating in the movie industry is leading to increasingly poor self-image, lowered self-esteem and career goals among young girls.
