Anti-smoking groups work to remove private club exemptions from smoking ban

In the face of a controversial smoking ban, a group of bar owners, employees and patrons plans to lobby council members to keep exemptions to a minimum so private clubs won't have an advantage over restaurants and bars. "If it's a health issue that they're concerned about ... exempting anybody pretty much says that it's not a health issue," said Brad Klopfenstein, spokesman for Save Indianapolis Bars. The group says the current proposal would exclude about 60 organizations, including country and social clubs.
