Study: Consumers buy more 3DTVs, but content is scarce

The DisplaySearch unit of The NPD Group reports that 6.6 million 3DTV sets were shipped in the third quarter, up 27% from the second quarter, and the market research firm expects 3DTV shipments to increase 30% this quarter, for a total of 21.5 million units in 2011. Still, NPD/DisplaySearch says there is a "lack of 3D content and services" for those sets, meaning buyers are mostly watching two-dimensional video.
