Researchers to test "wash" method for blood transfusions in babies

Australian researchers are preparing to conduct a two-year study of the use of a "blood-washing" method before transfusions for premature infants. The researchers want to find out whether the technique can reduce inflammation and other complications linked to transfusions. The study will examine the washing method against current best practices for the transfusion of packed red blood cells.
