EPA makes initial move to require reporting of fracking chemicals

The Environmental Protection Agency will gather public comments on planned rules for disclosing hydraulic fracturing chemicals. The move partially grants an appeal from environmental groups urging the EPA to exercise its mandate under the Toxic Substances Control Act to enforce such measures. "EPA is exploring an approach that would minimize reporting burden and costs, take advantage of existing information, and avoid duplication of efforts," according to an EPA statement.
