Centralized locations and a variety of taxes are two reasons the business traveler pays a higher price per day for a hotel room than he or she would for an apartment or home rental. "There’s not a single reason why hotel rooms are so much more expensive on a per night basis than ordinary housing. But one place to start is taxes," Matthew Yglesias writes.
