Md. bill would mandate pollution insurance for Marcellus shale drillers

A draft bill in Maryland would require companies drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus shale to carry pollution insurance of $5 million per loss. The bill, which would take effect in July if approved by lawmakers and signed by the governor, also would require drillers to obtain a $50,000 performance bond per well.
