Amazon said it quadrupled Kindle sales on Black Friday compared with last year, thanks to the $199 Kindle Fire tablet, the first such device to provide real competition to Apple's iPad. But a rising tide seems to be lifting both boats: Analysts projected considerably higher iPad sales based on foot traffic at Apple stores. Other rivals are trying to compete by either joining Amazon in offering lower-priced tablets or severely discounting pricier devices. Best Buy said it sold out of the BlackBerry PlayBook after cutting the price from $499 to $199.
