School lunch lines go high-tech with palm scanners

A growing number of schools are using palm scanners in cafeterias to match students with their school-meal accounts. Currently, more than 50 school systems are using palm scanners, says Bud Yanak, of Fujitsu Frontech North America, which manufactures the PalmSecure device -- the only palm scanner so far on the market. While school nutrition professionals have praised the devices, some parents have opted not to let their children participate, in part, because of concerns over security.
