Only 41% of about 1.2 million HIV-positive people in the U.S. were both aware of their condition and receiving treatment, CDC researchers reported in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. They also found that only 28% of infected people had the virus under control. During a conference call, CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden said that the study emphasized the need for continuing work to realize the full benefits of antiretroviral treatment.
