Team approach helps WWII vet avoid amputation

Experts at the Palomar Wound Care Center in San Marcos, Calif., implemented a team approach to treating Virgil Rochester's diabetic foot wound after a doctor elsewhere recommended amputation. A podiatrist removed a small piece of infected bone, a vascular surgeon restored blood flow to the affected limb and a specialist oversees hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
